As of February 13, 2025, Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain of India's One Day International (ODI) team. He is also leading the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following Hardik Pandya's transfer to the Mumbai Indians. In the 2024 IPL season, Gill scored 426 runs in 12 matches at an average of 38.72, including one century and two half-centuries. Despite his efforts, the Gujarat Titans finished eighth in the league.

In international cricket, Gill has been a consistent performer for India. He holds the record for being the fastest player to reach 2,000 runs in ODIs, achieving this milestone in just 38 innings. Additionally, he is the youngest cricketer to score a double century in ODIs, accomplishing this feat at the age of 23.

Recently, during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, Gill suffered from dengue fever, which caused him to miss the initial matches. He revealed that he lost four kilograms due to the illness and was still in the process of regaining full fitness during the tournament.

Despite these health challenges, Gill has continued to contribute significantly to the Indian cricket team across all formats.
